First bbq i try here in Victoria. Loved it! The fried corn was so good. We ordered to go so i have yet to experience their customer service when dining in. I ordered their brisket and sausage. Bbq sauce was good. My friend got the brisket sandwich nd thought their fries were really good. Will visit again. Portion is good size as well.
The ribs have the perfect blend of sweet, smoke and spice and so so tender. The pinto beans are rich and creamy. And the fried cream corn is as good as it sounds.
My favorite place to eat in Victoria!! My boyfriend and I were in town and decided to introduce him to my Uncle Mutt's! He LOVED it and the guns and money that are showcased on the wall! A little dirty inside but the food is to die for!
I'm not a local. I don't know where the spots are. All I knew was that I wanted to grab some food from a non-chain BBQ spot. I just happened to have found one a few blocks away from the Hampton Inn, where I was staying. I found Uncle Mutt's.
This is definitely a fast food joint. The food had definitely been sitting (I came in around store closing time) for hours, if not longer, but I didn't care. If you're looking for fresh food, don't come here. I warned you. But then again, for me personally, I don't expect anything gourmet with a spot named "Uncle Mutt's-anything". I knew what I was getting myself into and I wanted cheap BBQ and this place had done so.
I got the Uncle Mutt's special that came with 3 choice of meat and two sides for ~$11-12 after tax -- which I think is a good deal, given the observable quality of the food. I got rice, coleslaw, brisket, pork ribs, and ham. The food was rather delicious. The BBQ sauce mixed with the Montreal Steak seasoning (yes, that's how it tastes like) on the ribs satisfied my taste buds. The meat was tender and fell off the bone. The brisket was quite dry, but the BBQ sauce moisturized it a bit. The ham was soft and enjoyable to eat.
Good stuff.
So I am not sure if it is because I have been out of state for a while or not. I did go to Jr. High and High School in Victoria, many years ago. At the time, it was not really a BBQ kind of town. When I traveled back to visit family, I just remembered Uncle Mutt's as being boring and dry. On this last trip however, I was very pleased with what we were served. The Brisket was just off the smoker, hot, juicy great ring and bark. It was great. The sausage, which we had to wait a few minutes for, was also great. Nice and peppery. Seemed either hime made or of the 'hill country' varity. it was not a 'hillshire farms' link. This was much better.
So I am not sure if, as is with BBQ in general, the other folks came at the wrong time or not and just got a bad slice. Or maybe they are inclined to compare Uncle Mutt's to the Salt Lick, Snows or the City Market. It is none of these above. But, UM is in Victoria and it is solid Q. BTW, they have great specials.
Really great bbq!! Brisket was really tender with great flavor and the ribs were awesome... :)
I had dinner here a couple weeks ago while visiting the area for work. I had the chicken with pinto beans and potato salad. The chicken was moist and flavorful.
Overall, I thought the food was good as as the service. The building is older but that didn't takeaway from my experience at all.
They also have a drive-thru which is rare for BBQ joints, at least in Dallas.
I will definitely go back next time I'm in the area.
Mumphord's is the best BBQ in Victoria, but Uncle Mutts is not bad. Their chopped BBQ brisket sandwich is really good and I have always loved their fried corn fritters. Oh, and a little secret is that they can make a good ole fashioned Dr. Pepper with added vanilla syrup.
This is good ole' home cookin' BBQ. I could have sworn it was 1982 after walking in the front door. A total time warp. As I walked in, a fresh brisket and sausage had just arrived at the serving station, so that justified getting the 2 meat platter. Both the meats and barbecue sauce that came with it were fantastic.
The highlight of my trip to Uncle Mutts came from the two sides & my interaction w/ the cashier. The fried sweet corn was up there as one of the best sides I've had at any restaurant. The self proclaimed "world famous" rice was really good, but may be a bit too highly regarded. As I paid my bill, the cashier referred to me as "baby" and "sweetie". I thought that was perfectly fitting w/ the old time and laid back vibe this place presents.
Excellent BBQ and great service! The prices aren't half bad either! I only went thru the drive thru so I can't judge the interior, but the food itself was tasty and served in Texas sized portions! Definitely coming back soon!
4 stars for service because I have yet to receive anything less than exceptional. Verdict is still out on the bbq. I'm not a bbq snob (yet) so I have no real helpful opinion. Food was descent but from the other bbq joints I have visited since moving to TX, this is average.
Good food. Huge portions. Their BBQ sauce is amazing, as is their brisket and chicken. Sausage was a little disappointing and they don't make their own tea which is a shame. Quick service. Nice people.
Always a great place to grab family size mixed bbq! I love how everything is always spot on! Never ate inside, just to go and this is a family favorite!!
A little miffed, headed back from corpus and wouldn't make it to Praseks in time for BBQ before they closed...Found this on Google maps.
A little dingy, but food was great. Brisket and sausage were solid, turkey is pretty good for turkey(not my thing) and green beans weren't boiled to death. A bit out of the way but would go back if the opportunity arose.
Took family who were visiting here for some good texas bbq. We were NOT disappointed. I got the 3 meat 2 side plate to share with my 3 children and it was the perfect amount. We had the brisket, chicken, and mashed potatoes. My husband got the 2 meat, 2 side plate. Pork ribs, sausage, potatoes, and coleslaw. All of it was soooo good. Good prices too. Highly recommend this place!
Not our first choice after reading reviews but glad we found it. The Limon's Corral place was it but they were out of ribs of a Friday evening. We got the Uncle Mutt's 3 meat and a half rack of ribs. Green beans and the potatoes were the sides of choice.
We always feel when in Texas, BBQ "WILL" be on the dining playlist. I mean really, it's Texas ! So we ordered the ribs, sausage, and chopped beef. Ribs are always our go to meat and the standard. The ribs surpassed the standard. The sausage was also excellent. Sometimes the sausage at BBQ restaurants is just blah. We wanted some pulled pork but are starting to feel pork butt just isn't on the menu down here. For our third meat we got chopped beef. It was mixed with some kind of sauce. This was the only thing that disappointed us. Just had that funny taste as described in previous post. I even slopped some on a slice of bread with lots of sauce and that didn't help. So wrapping the meats up, ribs two thumbs up. Sausage two thumbs up. Chopped beef two thumbs down. But hey, you might love it.
Forgot about the sliced brisket. Yum. Tender and juicy and able to be cut with my plastic spoon. Nice flavor and a pretty smoke ring.
Sauce and sides; potatoes were good according to my wife and she likes here taters. She also had green beans which she said were great. But hey, they had bacon in them! How can you go wrong?
The staff was very nice and helpful and the place appeared clean. We did our normal "para llevar" back to our hotel room. I'm having a few ribs for breakfast as I hope I help you make an informed decision.
Great, friendly service, very quick! The portions are definitely fair and worth the price! My only downside for the minus of one star, is how insanely hot it is inside! I didn't even eat anything spicy, and I was sweating like crazy in the booth we sat in. The booths themselves are rather uncomfortable and unevenly spaced from one side to the other. I was crushed! Then after eating the plate I got, the booth got smaller! Haha but they do have a drive through so you can get a massive amount of greatness and not be fat shamed by the booths and go eat somewhere in comfort lol. Great choice, especially with their reasonable hours of operation. I am a huge fan of bbq and I will definitely be returning! (Through the drive-thr
Employees very nice u get ur moneys worth and best of all the food is great
Had a BBQ sandwich. It was a big one yummy
Great BBQ and sides are always fresh.
I live in Austin, which has a few world renowned bbq spots such as Franklin's, Black's, and Salt lick. I had the honor of being at a wedding catered by uncle mutts and am.literally writing this review in front of 3 demolished plates of briskrt, sausage, and potatoes. This food shuts down all of the forementioned bbq places and ilay the top of my lists for bbq in TEXAS. Get some, u will not be disappointed!
Good place.
I just had the ribs and brisket 5 min ago.OMG I CANT MOVE ! Good food! I will agree with some of the people here and say the place definitely wasn't clean ..They just have alot of traffic and I'm sure it's hard to be ontop of.
Bbq is okay at best but service is great.
Great atmosphere! Excellent food. Employees are friendly and quick. No complaints here. Keep up the good work. One of the best places for bbq in South Texas.
Definitely worth the trip
Loved the sauce. Rice was excellent. Felt great after eating - portions were great size.
So far as BBQ goes in Victoria it's good.
MMMMM GOOD!!
I've gone to all of the bar b q places in town and Uncle Mutts has the cheapest bar b q and good quality food. The chop sandwiches are mouth watering and the bar b q sauce is the only kind I use. I don't know what milhaelaroden was thinking when he wrote that comment, but he must have had a really really bad day!! LOL!! Also, Uncle Mutts provides the best catering service in town. The food on the caterings is far better the other bar b q catering places in town (as well as other catering companies). I wouldn't know why somebody would pick another catering company other than Uncle Mutts.
I thought the barbecue brisket to be good as was the sausage. Not too salty. Option for lean or fatty or half and half. Very good value and I would look forward to going again. On the day I went, I ordered the #1 to go. This consisted of brisket, sausage and two sides and was enough for 3 people in my opinion. $25.
The fried sweet corn nuggets and dirty rice are two of my favorites! I always make a point to stop here when I'm home visiting family. The BBQ itself is pretty good (I've had some from other towns that was incredible, but I never feel like I'm settling when I come here)...only problem I've ever had is picking from all of their great sides!
It's pretty good barbecue
Best BBQ in South Tx!! Food is great & Staff is very welcoming & friendly
On point !
